Westfield Stratford City shopping centre in east London is huge, and opened in September 2011.
It’s estimated that the mall’s 300 stores, restaurants and attractions will employ up to 8,500 people, and Westfield say that at least 2,000 of these jobs will be filled by the local unemployed. Westfield also state that the centre will provide 18,000 permanent jobs when it is fully up and running.
For example, the John Lewis 240,000 sq ft department store will provide around 950 jobs. John Lewis have agreed that 250 jobs will go to long-term unemployed local residents and the remaining 700 jobs will be given to local residents where possible.
Other retail employers at Westfield Stratford are: Boots, Forever 21, Next, Topshop and Waitrose.
How to get a job at Westfield Stratford City shopping centre?
1) If you’ve got the appropriate qualifications and experience, then applying is a good start! Take a look at our list of shops and stores at Westfield Stratford and begin to contact the stores’ recruitment departments when you see that vacancies are available.
Westfield says that most of the retailers began recruiting in earnest in Summer 2011.

It’s also important to note that Westfield Stratford City mall only recruits for people to work on running the mall – they usually do not organise recruitment for the shops inside the shopping centre. If you want to work directly for Westfield, then see their website.
If you want a job at a shop inside Westfield Stratford, then you have to contact the retailers directly. Be warned: you have competition. It’s been reported that John Lewis have had 12,000 applications for the 800 roles on offer, Waitrose received 1,400 applications for 150 jobs at Westfield Stratford City.
